Otunba Olajuwon Okubena

As I grew older, I became aware that there were more herbs than the traditional malaria herb known to my family. In my village, there were traditional herbal healers and traditional birth attendants. I remember very vividly that all my brothers and sisters, born between 1942 and 1955 were all born at home with the assistance of a traditional birth attendant, even though the General Hospital with a maternity ward facilities were in existence. Traditional herbal practitioners usually kept a data base for all the remedies known to them. Many of them were uneducated and I recollect that I had the opportunity of assisting some of these people in updating their data base by either recording new remedies in their note books or reading from old records to refresh their memory as the need arose.

Effect of Jobelyn on Chest Pain and Sudden Death

Treatment for cancer is not restricted to orthodox medicine as many around the world have begun to embrace the unorthodox methods. There is also Jobelyn, which is produced in Ikeja, Lagos by Health Forever Products Limited. It has been used as a food supplement for acute myeloid leukaemia patients since 1998, according to Olajuwon Okubena, managing director of the company. He added that there have been testimonies from users of the drug that it alleviates pains associated with cancer. Another testimony was from Niyi Owoyomi, father of a 26-year-old leukaemia patient whose ailment had defied chemotherapy and who was on the verge of receiving a bone marrow transplant. He came to Nigeria from America to procure the drug for his son and returned four or five months afterwards to say that his son had been discharged from hospital as a result of complete remission.
